Ken
Wallace grew up on Long Island
New York playing keyboards during the disco era.
He has played for such artist as Sister Sledge, Grace Jones,
Gloria Gaynor, Shalimar Jodie Wately, Chubby Checker, Debarge,
Andrea True connection and many others.
While
touring for a few years Ken opened up his own writing studio
and was one of the first to explore new technologies. A pioneer
with the Linn drum LM1,Emulator 1, recognizing its potential,
Ken was one of the first owners of that keyboard. Those were
the beginning days of sampling. In that time most were still
in the dark about its possibilities. With the same insight,
Ken recognized the potential of the synth world (mini moog -
OBX- Profit 5- and a DSX sequencer ,synclaiver & Waveframe).
The
studio started with a old Fairchild console with Langevin Micpre's,
a passive custom eq, master room reverb and a 3M 79-24 track
recorder, still one of the best sounding machine of our times.
Later the studio moved up to the Studer Mark IV 24 track recorder
along with the Amek Angela automated console, the baby Neve.
In
1987 with his finger still on the pulse of technology, Ken progressed
into the "digital work station" world with a company
called Waveframe. They manufactured the first constant rate
sampler with a digital mixer, EQ, reverb, compression and an
8-track hard disk recorder. At that time Waveframe was so advanced
it had a 24bit sample rate converter built in. Ken still uses
this system for many of his projects, he says "there nothing
that sounds as natural as the frame". Ken likes recording
a live rhythm section playing in the studio, "Its more
challenging to make a better sounding recording." Emphasis
is always on mic techniques and room effects, bringing more
personality to the session.
In
the 1990's Ken began composing music for Television which included
under scoring ,themes, & Jingles.
